When you come from a family of artists, writers, musicians, wood workers, painters, singers, it’s not hard to be inspired to live creatively. Being encouraged to pursue art and creating Cici Pagán was a Creative Entrepreneur by the age of 18 making wearable art, and custom home decor pieces. She earned a cosmetology license at the age of 21 and used her artistic ability in the beauty industry. Within the beauty industry she was drawn to developing texture through hair cutting and the use of color theory as a colorist. In 2008 while working as a brand educator for professionals she started her own business as a freelance makeup artist. Through continued education in the makeup field she studied more in depth the areas of light, color theory, brush and airbrush painting techniques. By 2016 this lead her to start experimenting in oil painting on canvas. A major post-impressionism fan, Cici’s foray into canvas work started with painting things in nature. She continued as a makeup artist and pursued oils until 2019 when she began working in acrylics and tapped into something she never imagined. She began to paint abstractly. Even in makeup the avant-garde always seemed to allude her and her style was natural beauty. So to suddenly be inspired to paint abstractly was a surprise, but at 46 years old that’s exactly what she was, inspired, and has not looked back!
Cici is no longer a freelance makeup artist but still enjoys occasionally instructing private clients and working with a professional makeup brand. She currently works full time in her studio putting paint to canvas, still exploring abstract art. She has embraced her love for the impasto style and also incorporates mixed media design (a nod to her scrapbook craze of the late 90’s/early 2k’s). She has learned that abstract expressionism is not that far off from her personality as she thought. Actually it’s the perfect form of expression for her passionate complex personality and joy de verve.
When Cici is not in her studio covered in paint she enjoys reading, foreign films, learning french, hiking, sitting on the beach, and traveling. She’s a devoted wife, and mom of 4, living in New Jersey.
