Dear collector,

I created my first line of hand painted t-shirts and sold them when I was 18. Since then I’ve created in a plethora of mediums and genres. Art has always been a way for me to process, heal, and accept. It has been my therapist, my best friend, my journal, my translator, my celebration, my scream into the void.

My creative approach—no matter the medium—is honest story telling and documentation. My focus is not the actual details of the events as if reading novel or news article. My focus is always the emotion. The way dance conveys a story without words, I seek to convey a story or document my feelings, through the colors and strokes of emotion. I refine my “voice” until I can see the story on canvas as clearly as if it was words written in ink.

The beauty of painting and visual art is that it doesn’t matter the passion, violence, joy, or grief of the story, idea, or event that was the catalyst. The emotion evoked is always personal and private to the observer. A piece of art that is so personal to me as an artist will morph and merge with your experiences, temperament, and psyche. At the moment you connect with a piece of art, it becomes your’s. This is such a powerful metaphor so valuable for modern life as it is now. The stories are all vastly different but the story doesn’t matter. The humanity and commonality matters. The human element of emotion and spirit is binding. If we stop and contemplate with an honest, open heart, we can feel each other beyond words. It’s a primal connection because in reality we are all connected. Even without fully understanding every individual story we are capable of connecting, and understanding each other, through human-ness.

When I’m not painting I’m spending time with my beautiful family and the women friends in my life. Besides creating art I enjoy being outside in my yard with my roses and trying my hand at gardening. I love to read, watching movies, and go to concerts. I would say I’m in my sourdough era but that’s not going so well. (Any tips in that area are welcomed!)

Thank you for your interest in my voice and my art!

XOXO,

Cici Goodall-Pagán
